NO fewer than 3,000 inhabitants of war-torn coastal community Ogurude in Obubra Local Government Area, Cross River State, have benefitted from the free healthcare outreach carried out by the Nigeria Army, 13 Brigade, Calabar.
Residents were given free drugs for various ailments ranging from malaria to typhoid fever and some checked for hepatitis and blood pressure, while the army distributed insecticide-treated nets.

Flagging off the medical outreach, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai, represented by the Commander, 13 Brigade, Calabar, Brig. Gen Ismaila Isa, said the outreach was in support of the ongoing exercise, Python Dance II. His words: “I am here as the representative of the COAS with our health team to render this free medical service to you as part of the ongoing exercise, Python Dance II. The essence of this exercise is to rid our society from armed robbery, militancy, kidnapping, terrorism, proliferation of arms in the as well as other vices in the country.
“I am happy that we have not found anything incriminating in this community. We understand that this community used to be in conflict with their neighbours over land. But, I am happy now that you have all surrendered your arms for peace to reign. You must learn to live in peace amongst yourselves.”
They also said they would take the free medicare exercise to other parts of the South-east region as well.
